With my mini-apes on, I sit a lot straighter, so my highway bar/cruise pegs are a little too high. I've been looking for forward controls at a reasonable price. Haven't found any yet. I checked the JP Cycles page. WD, you posted something about buying a set that fits the mechanically drum-braked Panhead, were you talking about the "Original Equipment Style Forward Control Kits for Big Twins" that you buy one at a time? (The ones with no pegs)
If so, how would you suggest modifying the shift actuator from the top to the bottom? I guess all the HD-types are like that, so it would be valid for any set....
OR, could you not just get a couple blocks of stainless that are about 3-5 inches long, template out the current peg assembly holes on their front and back edges, and just move the stock assemblies forward (of course you'd have to go with a longer shift actuator-I'm thinking all thread- and break cable). Would that work? Would it put too much stress on the left side when the bike was on the kickstand?
In other news, I just painted my jug HD crinkle-black. It's not back together yet but the paint came out great.... I'm thinlking about also painting the carb (or at least the float-bowl). Then all I've got to do is get that damn emblem off the tank!
